French conservation garden opens this month

During May the A Rocha France team will be welcoming several important groups. Firstly, up to a dozen landowners will be visiting to discuss future conservation ideas for their properties. Then, on Saturday 31 May, the new conservation garden will be opened to the public. The garden has a pond, areas of meadow planted to attract Provençal butterflies and an extensive reedbed water purification system. Le Domaine des Courmettes is a cluster of attractive buildings set in 600 hectares close to Nice, in SE France. The estate belongs to a Protestant association, Amiral de Coligny, which originally ran the centre as a sanatorium and more recently as a conference centre and nature reserve. The centre has been closed for two years, but A Rocha France has now entered into a partnership with the owners, aiming to develop the estate in ways that will increase environmental awareness amongst all the visitors and further improve the reserve’s value for wildlife.
