In France, A Rocha has established its base in the Vallée des Baux, close to Arles in Provence. From its olive groves to green oak forests, and bull and sheep pastures to wetlands, it is a region rich in various natural habitats and human activities. A Rocha France was formally established as an Association 1901 in 2000 and thanks to the generosity of a donor was able to purchase Les Tourades as its study centre in 2001.

The work focuses on three main areas:

  • Welcoming visitors and encouraging discussions of environmental issues.
  • Conducting scientific research on local flora, fauna and ecosystems.
  • Managing and protecting vulnerable or threatened sites.

Currently, the work of the team and volunteers at A Rocha France is rapidly expanding and is in partnership with French conservation groups such as the CEEP (Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de Provence), the Agence des Alpilles, and the Tour du Valat, as well as a number of churches and Christian organisations.
