Dragonflies recorded in the Aammiq area

The Aammiq region has a surprising diversity of dragonflies. Listed below are species recorded by A Rocha personnel. The list is mainly based on records during weekly surveys of the Aammiq area over a seven month period from April to October of 2003.

The Aammiq region includes not just the wetlands but also the adjacent farmland and the rocky and partly wooded slopes of Jebel Barouk overlooking the marsh.

The dragonflies of the Aammiq area can be divided into two groups, the Zygoptera (damselflies) and the Anisoptera (the insects commonly referred to as dragonflies).

Comments or clarifications on this list are welcome (email lebanon@arocha.org).
