May 30th to June 2nd 2008 - "Eden to Aotearoa: From Biblical Hope to Ecological Action"

Raglan Beach

A Rocha Aotearoa New Zealand's first national conference will be held in Raglan during the Queen's Birthday weekend, 2008, and aims to “inspire and empower Christians to care for the earth.” Keynote speakers include Peter Harris (founder of A Rocha), Marie Connett-Porceddu (the current CEO), Anglican Archbishop David Moxon and Stephen Pattemore of the New Zealand Bible Society. The conference will also feature practical workshops, panel discussions and educational field-trips, including tree planting, guided walks on Mt. Karioi, and visits to two of Raglan’s high profile environmental initiatives; the Xtreme Waste Recycling Center and Whaingaroa Harbour Care.

The worsening environmental crisis has caused Christians throughout the world to rediscover ecological hope in the Bible. A Rocha has been acting on this hope since 1983 through conservation projects now in 18 countries. This conference is to inspire Kiwis to hope Biblically for our planet, and empower us with the practical skills we need to work out the A Rocha vision in Aotearoa NZ.

Past Conferences

May 2007 - "A Colloquium on the Environment"

This colloquium was held at the Bible College of New Zealand, Auckland, and was jointly sponsored by A Rocha, and TANSA (Theology and the Natural Sciences in Aotearoa), a centre for science and faith dialogue within the Tyndale-Carey Graduate School, partly funded by Metanexus.net. The colloquium included a public lecture by Professor John Flenley, entitled "For the Beauty of the Earth". A selection of papers presented at the colloquium have been published in the November 07 issue of the journal Stimulus (See www.stimulus.org.nz).

February 2005 - "Creation, Crisis and Conservation"

This conference, held at the University of Auckland (Auckland), was organised by key Christian leaders including members of the A Rocha Aotearoa New Zealand Initiative Group.
