Biologist, Magister Scientiae in Forestry Resources Conservation (UNALM) and Doctor in Ecology and Sustainable Development (ECOSUR-Mexico). I am currently visiting professor in Forest and Management Forestry Resources Master Degree, Forestry Conservation Resources Master Degree and Sustainable Agriculture Doctoral Program, associated researcher of Forestry Herbarium (MOL) of the Forestry Faculty of the National Agrarian University La Molina, Lima, scientific editor of Zonas áridas journal (<www.lamolina.edu.pe/ciza|www.lamolina.edu.pe/ciza>) and consultant for diversity assessment and Ethnobotany in mountain and lowland forest, natural protected areas selection and conservation strategies. My research interests are focused on the management and conservation of tropical forests, through an accurate understanding of the natural and social processes linked with these ecosystems. I have a particular interest in quantitative ethnobotany (no-timber forest product systems), traditional ecological knowledge, floristic composition of the forest types in relation to different rainfall conditions, altitude, geographic position and sustainable use of natural resources by indigenous people. I am currently involved in biodiversity monitoring, forest structure, sustainable use of natural resources projects and conservation planning strategies in natural reserves areas and specialist courses in plant assessment, data analysis and design methods, ethnobiology topics, Ethnobotany and conservation issues.

José Luis Mena, ARP committee member
José Luis Mena

Biologist, M.Sc. Visiting professor in two Peruvian universities, José now works in the Peruvian office of WWF and specializes in the investigation of small endemic mammals in the western mountainous zones of the Andes. He is part of the Directivbe Council of the new Peruvian Society of Mastozoologists. He is keen to see A Rocha working in the conservation of species in diverse habitats across the country.

Oscar González

Oscar Gonzalez is a Biologist, specialist in Ornithology. Has a M.Sc. in Zoology and a M.Sc. in Tropical Biodiversity Management. He studied in Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Perú) and Universidad San Pablo CEU (Spain). Besides his work in A Rocha, is president of Grupo Aves del Peru – GAP and member of Associations of Nature and Bird research and conservation. There are various papers published in Peruvian and international journals of scientific interest published by him. He is the main author of a new guide to the Birds of Lima, Peru. Furthermore, he works as a consultant in research projects in Zoology and Environmental Impact Assessments, with experience in environmental audits in all regions of Peru. He is ussualy invited to give speeches and conferences in different scientific events in Peru and overseas. Ramón Casana

Ramón Casana

Ramón Casana is a Biologist, M.S. student of Environmental Management of the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo. He is also principal pastor of the church “Comunidad Carismática Cristiana” in this city. He is interested in wetland conservation in the coast and is working on a thesis project entitled: “Physical and Anthropical impacts in the Campo Nuevo-Guadalupito wetlands in valle del Santa, La Libertad”. This project is a priority in A Rocha Peru.

Alex Sifuentes

Pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Juanjui, Northern Amazon region. He studied Civil Engineering in the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria in Lima. Nowadays is doing graduate studies in pastoral Theology in FATELA. He is interested in spreading the concepts of Creation Stewardship and to promote projects in local communities of his workplace, mainly close to National Parks.

Sarah-lan Mathez-Stiefel, biologist and anthropologist, member of ARP's council of reference
Sarah-Lan Mathez-Stiefel

Antropologist and Biologist, M.A. of the University of Neuchâtel and University of Bern, Switzerland. She works as research scientist for the Center for the Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Bern, Switzerland since 2002. In its work it is dedicated to sustainable development, sustainable handling of the natural resources, traditional Etnoecology and Etnobotany, traditional ecological knowledge and processes of social learning. She is investigating for a doctoral thesis in human geography on the transformation of indigenous environmental knowledge in the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes since 2006. She works as an adviser for the regional program BioAndes of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation – SDC; program that aims at the conservation of the biocultural diversity in Andean zones of Boliva, Peru and Ecuador since 2006. She also lectures in the Masters program “Agroecology, Culture and Sustainable Endogenous Development in Latin America” of the center AGRUCO, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Simón, Cochabamba, Bolivia since 2007.

Tor Egil Hogsas

Tor Egil Høgsås

Tor is Norwegian, now living in Peru with his family. He is serving as missionary in Juliaca, Puno and will manage a Theological Seminar. He has studied Theology, History, Sociology, Pedagogy and Spanish at different universities in Norway. He is a keen birdwatcher and has published important papers on bird distribution in southern Peru.
