Why work in the Algarve?

The Algarve has a wealth of ecological interest and natural beauty. In recent years it has undergone dramatic transformation, allied with rapid development following Portugal's entry into the European Community. The annual influx of millions of tourists has also had a profound impact on the landscape. At the same time traditional values and beliefs have been shaken and familiar European problems of family breakdown and social difficulties are widespread in many Algarve towns and villages.

Together with many conservation organisations world-wide, the team at Cruzinha recognise that our beliefs about the natural world lie behind the way we treat the environment.

So we are active both in working for the protection of the remaining important habitats in the western Algarve, and in providing an opportunity to demonstrate the relevance of the Christian faith to this vital issue.
